Join the business delegation and meet Chilean pig and poultry meat producers, 13-17 June 2022

The delegation programme offers a unique opportunity for companies along the pig and poultry value chain to tap into the vast business possibilities of the Chilean market.

The Danish Agriculture & Food Council (DAFC) and The Trade Council at Royal Danish Embassy in Chile invite your company to join a physical business delegation focused on the Chilean pig and poultry industry – targeting both primary production and processing. You can expect to meet leading Chilean pig and poultry producers through a 5-days programme in Chile on 13-17 June 2022. The Trade Council in Denmark is supporting the event financially.

This business delegation puts spotlight on the pig and poultry production value-chains and the Chilean market-leading companies, who all are characterised by having activities both within primary production and processing activities. Participation is relevant for Danish companies operating within one of the following areas: breeding and genetics, agri-industrial equipment and solutions, feed stuff and feed mills, stable and housing equipment, ventilation, food processing technology, solutions related to bio-security, cooling/cold chain, storage, quality control, ingredients and advisory services.

The event will particularly be relevant for companies with environmental solutions to reduce and/or solve odour emission issues from pig houses, manure storage tanks/lagoons and bio-digestors. This is due to the Odour Emission regulation recently approved at national level and targeting primary pig production.

Chilean pig industry is a growing market with a production of approx. 575.000 t meat in 2020, exporting 81% at a value of USD 868m. The pig meat producers are looking for ways to improve the social, environmental and economic sustainability of the sector with focus areas such as reduced water consumption, reduction in the use of antibiotics and control of AMR. With a new national legislation on odour emission handling, this area will become even more important.

DAFC and TC Santiago have previously organised physical and virtual delegations to Chile in 2019 and 2020, and the Chilean industry is very aware of Denmark’s position as industry leader.

With this delegation programme, participants are expected to meet the following Chilean companies:

Agrícola Super Ltda. (Agrosuper)
Agrosuper is the market-leader in both pig, poultry and salmon production in Chile. Agrosuper processes their pigs at two pig slaughterhouses, Rosario and Lo Miranda, and poultry at the San Vicente slaughterhouse. All of them are near Rancagua, approx. 1,5 hours south of Santiago.

Agrosuper has directly expressed interests in solutions for analysis on higher yield of their products, increased use of sensors in process lines, digitisation, optimization of cold chain, energy and resource efficiency especially water consumption, farm management, manure management, feed mills, feed production, higher FCR and reduction of pathogens. The key issues for the company is Salmonella handling throughout the entire value chain.

COEXCA is partially owned (26.5%) by the Danish Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU) and is continuously looking towards Denmark for solutions to increase yield, performance and lowering the environmental footprint. Coexca has recently been approved by the CMF (Financial Markets Regulator) to issue bonds at a value of USD 60 million to support a continuous growth plan running through 2026.

COEXCA has directly expressed interests in solutions for manure handling, feeding systems, feed mills, farm management, bio-digesters, automation in areas such as packaging, palletising, cutting and deboning, scanning and precision portioning. Coexca is projecting two new green field projects of 5,000 sows each besides the plans to increase production at their San Agustin unit, built in 2016.

MaxAgro S.A.
MaxAgro has directly expressed interests in solutions for improving the degree of recycling and reuse of water and other resources, automation of production and processing, cutting and deboning, ventilations systems, manure handling and cleaning of lagoons. The company has been exploring the possibilities of introducing foreign capital and expertise similar to the IFU-investment in COEXCA.

Agrícola AASA S.A.
AASA is with its 8,750 sows the smaller of the four companies. AASA also has their own slaughterhouse (COMAFRI) with a slaughter capacity of approx. 1,800 pigs per day, also approved for exports.

Besides the pig-production and processing, AASA has their own biogas department with an installed capacity of 1 MW providing electricity for own consumption at the farm as well as supplying the national electric grid.

Ariztía and Chorombo (market shares of 31% and 8% respectively, 2018 figures) are the largest poultry producers in Chile and are part of a Chilean industry struggling with high Salmonella prevalence. Therefore, they might be included in the programme as well. Furthermore, Chorombo also has pig production.
