Virtual meeting about the coming business delegation to Algeria & Tunisia, 7 February 2023

The Embassy of Denmark in Algiers and the Danish Agriculture & Food Council present opportunities for Danish companies to tap into Algeria and Tunisia’s transformation of the agricultural and aquaculture sectors.

ALGERIA AND TUNISIA
With a combined 58 million middle-income young and educated population, Algeria and Tunisia represent interesting markets for many foreign companies. Due to their strategic geographic locations, it is easy to reach out for the European, Middle Eastern and African Markets from Algeria and Tunisia. 

Both countries depend heavily on Agriculture that accounts for 15-18% of the labour force and 15% of the GDP. Both governments have launched very attractive incentives for farmers to get land, equipment and services (tax and tariffs breaks, interest free loans, export promotion). Furthermore, food products such as bread, sugar, cooking oil, flour and milk are subsidized products creating a high demand from the population hence the high level of cereals and milk powder imports in this region (Algeria is the 14th importer of wheat worldwide).

The goal for both countries is to achieve food security and economic diversification in a sustainable way and Danish solutions within Agriculture and Aquaculture can help them reach these goals. 

At the Virtual meeting, the Danish Embassy in Algiers will make a general introduction to the Algerian and Tunisian agriculture and food sector. Further, the embassy will present the planned business delegation to Algeria and Tunisia in May 2023 and elaborate on the B2B opportunities and roundtable sessions.

• Questions (20 minutes)
