Sign up to meet visiting business delegation from Mexico

With focus on sustainable pig production

The delegation programme offers direct meetings in Denmark with some of the largest Mexican pig producers, as well as in-depth information and knowledge sharing about their current demands and investment plans. This will provide unique opportunities for Danish companies with relevant solutions along the pig value chain.

The Danish Agriculture & Food Council (DAFC) and the Danish Trade Council in Mexico City invite your company to join this business delegation focused on the Mexican pig industry, to follow up on our previous delegations with similar focus held over the last years. With this business activity, you will have the opportunity to meet personally with decision makers from main pig producing companies in Mexico when they visit Denmark on a study tour. This year’s Agromek fair will work as a platform for the meetings, but it will not be the main purpose of the visit.

Sustainability related sub-topics such as animal health, bio-security/hygiene, welfare, side-stream handling and genetics in the primary production and food safety and optimisation in processing will be central parts of the agenda, and selling points for you as a Danish solution provider.

What will you get?

You get to:

  • Meet a targeted and relevant audience of key Mexican pig producers, operating within both primary production and processing, and learn about their demands and key challenges
  • Hold direct B2B meetings and present your own products and solutions to high level representatives of the Mexican companies
  • Explore broader sales and investment opportunities in Mexico and gain marketing and sales visibility, including through Mexican trade associations which might also participate
  • Obtain exposure through the PigSolutionsDK-platform targeted at the Mexican producers and LATAM stakeholders in general.

Who should join?

This business delegation is relevant for companies which supply sustainable products and solutions within the following areas along the pig meat value chain:

  • Housing equipment & technology and management systems
  • Slurry management
  • Water efficiency/treatment
  • Air treatment/ventilation
  • Feed/feed supplements/feed production technology
  • Genetics
  • Hygiene/disinfection
  • Processing technology and optimisation

Companies which are either looking into new business development opportunities or are already present or want to expand in Mexico within the pig segment will benefit from participating in the delegation.

Why join?

If you are interested in positioning your company among the main pig producers and exporters in Mexico, this is a relevant business delegation for you.

The Mexican pig meat industry contributes 1.5% to global production, which makes Mexico rank world’s 7th largest producer. In 2023, national production increased from 21,700,000 heads to 22,075,000, marking a 1.73% growth. Current trends suggest further acceleration in production during 2024, with an estimate of 2.4% growth.

Meat, especially pork, stands as Mexico’s major export, valued at $2.91 billion in 2023. Similarly, the United States was the primary importer of Mexican meat, with a value of almost $2 billion. However, Mexico experienced a significant decrease in exports in 2023, but forecasts estimate Mexican pork exports to increase during 2024, especially to Asian markets such as Japan and Korea.

The Mexican industry is increasingly consolidating, and the larger producers are vertically integrated, from artificial insemination to distribution and even retailing. This speaks for increasingly professionalised partners looking for state-of-the-art solutions. Meeting decision makers from Mexican meat pig producers will provide a great potential for Danish companies within many parts of the pig value chain.

Commercial exposure

As organisers of this business delegation, the DAFC and TC Mexico City will make use of the PigSolutionsDK-platform to present and showcase your company. Please contact luchic@um.dk as soon as possible after signing up, in case you are not registered, or you need to edit your own company page. The platform will be shared with the Mexican delegation prior to the arrival of the delegation and ensure your exposure to the potential customers.

GCM is a fully integrated pork company. In 2019, they opened a slaughter plant equipped with state-of-the-art technology, with an installed capacity that is expected to reach 10,000 heads per day. GCM is member of UN Global Compact. It has also ventured in clean energy generation (over 9 MW), through investment in natural gas plants and methane captured from their own lagoons.
  • Kekén is a Mexican leading pig producer, with fully integrated operations, including feed mill plants, large-capacity farms (over 70,000 sows), slaughterhouses and processing plants. Beyond domestic sales, Kekén is also significantly focussed on exports to markets such as Japan, South Korea, USA, Canada, Hong Kong and China. Kekén has an important agenda on sustainability, through the use of biogas, a sophisticated waste water treatment system, and the production of bio solids that can be used for crops. It has established a programme to reach zero water discharge by 2025 and plans to join the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBT) to contribute to climate mitigation.
  • La Fortuna was founded in 1987. Avigrupo Group acquired the company “La Fortuna” in 2007, adding up potential to the already large poultry production in the group. Avigrupo is ranked as 4th poultry producer and the 10th pork producer in Mexico. Their yearly growth rate is 30.4% during the past 8 years, contributing to 3% of the pig production in Mexico.
  • Kowi is one of Mexico’s largest pork meat producers and traders, vertically integrated. They sell domestically and export to Japan, USA, Korea, among others. Kowi’s farms have capacity for 32,000 sows, and is a high-producing company reaching 85,000 piglets per month. Kowi is able to process 4,000 hogs per day. Certified nationally and internationally, Kowi pursuits quality and productivity in their operations and products.

NOTE: The price is based on 7 participating companies, who are all eligible for subsidy, and 50 percent subsidy (already granted) from the Trade Council of Denmark.
