Business Delegation Malaysia

Food Processing Technology and Advanced Ingredients, Foodservice & Retail Opportunities

The Danish Agriculture & Food Council, in cooperation with the Royal Danish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, is pleased to invite Danish companies to a tailor-made business delegation visit to Malaysia. The visit will focus on advanced food processing equipment and technologies, with the possibility to include a foodservice/retail track based on participant interest.

Why Malaysia?

  • Strategic Location: Located in the heart of Southeast Asia, Malaysia serves as a gateway to a market of over 670 million consumers. Its multicultural society poses an ideal test-best for regional trends, tastes and preferences
  • Growing Middle Class: Malaysia is set to become a high-income country by 2028. Rising incomes, combined with an urbanisation rate of 78%, continue to boost demand for processed food, convenience, and premium quality products.
  • Food Processing Hub: Malaysia is promoting a dynamic and growing food manufacturing sector. The food processing industry accounted for 11% of Malaysia’s manufacturing output in 2023.
  • Focus on Agricultural Sustainability: Malaysia’s ambition to become carbon neutral by 2050 actively promoted sustainable agricultural and food-processing practices, including energy-efficient farm management and food processing technologies
  • Import Dependency: Despite being one of the most developed countries in Southeast Asia, Malaysia relies heavily on imports ($24.4 bn annually) of processed food, ingredients and agricultural-related products

Agriculture, Food Processing and Retail opportunities

  • Malaysia has identified the food processing industry as a critical sector for future economic and sustainable growth. Malaysia’s food manufacturing base spans key sectors such as dairy, bakery, ready-to-eat meals, and beverages.

  • The agricultural and food-processing industry is moving towards sustainability and efficiency, focusing on upgrading energy-efficient equipment, water-saving technologies, and innovative packaging solutions.
