The Embassy of Denmark in Addis Ababa and the Danish Agriculture & Food Council (DAFC) are excited to invite you to participate in a business delegation to Ethiopia focusing on solutions relevant for the Danish–Ethiopian Bilateral Development Programme for the period 2025 to 2029. The priorities of this delegation are centred around Food and Agricultural Commercialization through Climate Smart Inclusive Innovations programme supported by the Danish Embassy.
Ethiopia – A market with great potential for the food and agriculture sector
The business delegation aims to introduce you to the areas with businesses opportunities relevant to Danish expertise and solutions with concrete project proposal that Danish businesses can leverage on. Some of these areas are:
- Cold-chain solutions
- Dry-storage solutions
- Food processing and import (grain, dairy, fruit and vegetables)
- Poultry and cattle genetics
- Coffee Farm and Coffee roasting
- Farm mechanisation
- Digital solutions for agriculture and food production
Ethiopia seeks to increase the production of key crops, add value to its produce, reduce post-harvest losses in order to ensure food security, feed its current and new industries while improving farmers livelihood through increase revenue. As part of the incremental market opening, Ethiopia will also be looking to strengthen import and export of food and agricultural products.
Why Ethiopia?
- Ethiopia is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world and in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Ethiopia has a large and expanding domestic market (10% annual market growth) and is the second most populous country in Africa (135 million people).
- The government of Ethiopia is undertaking major macroeconomic reforms as the country is transitioning from a state-led development model to a more private sector driven economy. The Government of Ethiopia has taken bold steps to attract increased foreign direct investment (FDI). Investment activities in the export, import, wholesale, and retail trade sectors were previously restricted exclusively to local companies but has now been liberalized and opened to international investors.
- In Ethiopia, there is a renewed drive and commitment to addressing post-harvest food loss and waste, a long-standing challenge in Ethiopia’s agricultural sector, which Denmark supports through our bilateral country programme
- Ethiopia aims at strengthening its position as the gateway to the African markets, and currently offers access to other markets such as Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia and Northern Kenya.
- The African Union, strong UN presence and 124 embassies are present in Addis Ababa ensuring a steady flow of visitors, a high-end market demand, and key opportunities through their programmes and networks.

PROGRAMME 23-27 November 2026– 2 days outside of Addis Ababa as relevant
Day 1: 23 November
- Arrival at Bole Airport, Addis Ababa
- Welcome meeting and briefing at the Danish Embassy (introduction to program and delegation; context and Denmark’s engagement in Ethiopia; developments in the Ethiopian business environment)
- Meet with representatives from the Ethiopian Investment Commission to get an overview of investment opportunities, requirements, and incentives
- Meeting in Ministry of Agriculture (food production, import and export sit under the MoA) and Agricultural Transformation Institute
Day 2: 24 November
- Meet with representatives from the EU Chamber and EU Delegation’s business team in Ethiopia to get the perspective of established foreign investors
- Visit selected coffee processing and roasting companies in Ethiopia together with representatives from the Ethiopian Coffee Exporters association
- Meet with representatives from Horticultural Producers’ Association to learn about opportunities, challenges, and potential for joint ventures
- Dinner Reception
Day 3: 25 November
- Travel to Mojo and Bishoftu (30-40 km outside of Addis Ababa)
- Visit agricultural farms (poultry farm, avocado farm etc.)
- Visit post-harvest management operations and food processing companies working with grain, dairy, fruit, and vegetables
- Short visit at a brewery factory
- Short visit at a cold-chain infrastructure facility
- Drive back to Addis Ababa
Day 4: 26 November
- Fly to Jimma, Oromia
- Visit-industrial Park
- have one-to-one meetings with investors within the industrial zone
- Visit agricultural coffee and avocado farms
- Visit member of Ethiopian Seed Association
- Fly back to Addis Ababa
Day 5: 27 November
- Meeting with Ethiopian Netherlands Business Association representatives, who has many members from the agri- and horticulture sector
- Debriefing meeting and discussion on way forward
- Fly back to Copenhagen
Price
The total price for participation in the business delegation to Ethiopia is 9,500 DKK per company for one representative. Extra representative 2,300 DKK per person.
NOTE: The Danish company is free to have its local representatives represent your company in full during the event. On the registration form you can, if relevant, therefore add the contact information of the local participating person/company. However, only Danish companies in Denmark with a Danish CVR number can register for participation, and the invoicing will always be issued in DKK to the Danish company address.
We reserve the right to offer you participation at a different price, if any of the above criteria change. Should this result in a higher price than quoted, you have the right to cancel your participation. Other expenses not mentioned above are at your own expense including visa, flights, dining & drink and hotel.
NOTE: The price is based on 7 participating companies, who are all eligible for subsidy, and 75 percent subsidy (already granted) from the Trade Council of Denmark.
If your company is not eligible for subsidy due to de-minimis issues (having received more than 300,000 Euro in de-minimis subsidy within the past 3 years, including the present), you are obliged to pay the full price without the subsidy. The same conditions apply, if you do not wish to receive subsidy.
Hotel and travel information
Own travel (flight, taxi, train, etc.), VAT, hotel, and insurance are not included in the price. Upon registration, you will receive more details regarding the hotel.

Please register at the top of this site no later than 1 September 2026.
Registration is made in accordance with DAFC’s terms of participation.
