Danish Pig and Poultry Delegation to Chile
The visit will take place in and around Santiago, centrally located in order to visit and meet with businesses
The Danish Agriculture & Food Council (DAFC) and the Danish Embassy in Chile invite you to participate in an export delegation to Chile with a focus on pig and poultry production. The delegation visit will take place in and around the capital Santiago, centrally located in order to visit and meet with businesses. The pig and poultry production sector is a key driver for the Chilean economy. With GDP growth reaching 2,4% in 2025 and medium-term growth expectations of around 2,2% for 2026-2030, animal husbandry/food production – and specifically pig and poultry production - stands as primary growth drivers.
Chile has a highly export-oriented pig and poultry sector and is considered one of the most competitive meat producers in Latin America. In 2025, approximately 750,000 tonnes of chicken meat were produced, accounting for around 48% of the country’s total meat production. About 25% of Chilean chicken production is primarily exported to North America. Pig production reached approximately 590,000 tonnes in 2025, with more than 50% exported. Pig and chicken exports represent an important share of Chile’s agricultural and agro-industrial exports, generating respectively around USD 0.7 billion and 0.4 billion annually. Chile is increasingly looking for export market diversification and engage with trading partners via more than 35 free trade agreements, including key partnerships with the EU and the United States. This generates significant export opportunities and at the same time increases compliance requirements in food safety, energy efficiency, and sustainability for Chilean producers.
To meet these enhanced standards, there is a growing demand from the producers for advanced and efficient technologies to improve the sustainability of their business model. In addition, the pig industry is facing a 2027 deadline to limit odour emissions, in 2025 a control and salmonella elimination program for poultry was launched, and currently an antibiotics reductions law is being discussed. Thus, sustainability and biosecurity are big demands in upgrading the pig and poultry production in Chile. Denmark is well positioned to offer such solutions and products to the Chilean agri-food sector, and the delegation visit will give the participating companies an opportunity to present their products, equipment and solutions directly to key stakeholders. This way delegation participants can explore potential partnerships in a rapidly evolving market.
